POGANG, Stroud's arch 80s-influenced indie stylists, return to the local live fray with a headlining gig at The Space this weekend.

The band formed at the end of 2003 after founder members Rob Evans and Josh Lowe had spent several years writing house music with BRS and J & R Productions.

After releasing a number of records on a variety of labels, including Imperial Dub, Cyclo Records and BRS label Friends & Families, Rob and Josh decided to form a live band; the result was Popgang.

Thirty months on, Popgang have played gigs in Stroud, London, Brighton, Bristol & Nottingham, one of the highlights being their recent gig at the Hub Collective Night in Stroud Subscription Rooms supporting the Brakes.

They are currently mixing their new mini-album, Get Out & Walk, which will hopefully be ready in time for the gig. They will be supported by three local bands, Mafiosi, Brownstreak and Roundabout. Mafiosi formed in the Autumn of 2005 when The Victory Show split up.

With a strong desire to get back out there and play live, James Marling and Chris Scarle decided to start from scratch and form a new band, with Chris' sister Heidi on bass. Mafiosi will also be selling an EP at the gig.

Brown Streak are a four piece from Nailsworth whose influences range from Muse and Radiohead through to The Stone Roses and Nina Simone, whilst Roundabout are a female fronted four piece from Stroud.

The gig takes place on Friday, July 21 at 8pm. Tickets are £5 on the door.

Stroud band Popgang complete the bill, and DJ Mr Messy will play into the small hours.
