| Stroud New & Journal 'Hub in the Subs' Preview 23/04/06 ![]() by Adam Horovitz WITH a line-up of three exciting bands the next Hub Collective event at Stroud's Subscription Rooms looks set to be one of the best yet. Headline act Brakes are making a stop in Stroud as part of their April tour, and will be joined by Actress Hands and local heroes PopGang for the gig on Friday (April 21). "It looks set to be the most exciting Hub night yet," said Hub head honcho Neil Walker. "Brakes have earned critical acclaim and a loyal following and their performance in the Sub Rooms sees a return to home turf for vocalist and guitarist Eamon Hamilton. "He was born in Canada but he grew up in Stroud." Hamilton joined Brighton band British Sea Power in 2002. In the same year he met guitarist Tom White and drummer Alex White, from Electric Soft Parade, in Brighton and formed Brakes, which now takes up all his time. Brakes' debut album, Give Blood, released last year was named one of the Albums Of The Year in the NME. They've been touring with The Editors, who also have Stroud connections, and played recent dates with Belle & Sebastian and Maximo Park. Brakes released All Night Disco Party as a single this month. Brakes will be joined by fellow Brighton band Actress Hands, whose indie guitar pop with live harmony singing, glorious guitars and unusual tempo changes have earned them a loyal following. Stroud band Popgang complete the bill, and DJ Mr Messy will play into the small hours. Doors open at 8.30pm and tickets, priced £6.50 are available from the box office or on the door before 10.30pm. www.thisisstroud.com |
